Since I began volunteering in Los Angeles schools, I've received literally thousands of thank-you-notes from students. It is incredibly rewarding to see how much they have learned ... how they have learned to love music .. .and how much they appreciate the efforts of adults who teach them.

During the many years I spent developing the Blue-Line Music Teaching Method for the Recorder, it has always been my dream to share it with other teachers and volunteers.

How we started

What we teach

The Blue-Line Music Teaching Method was developed by a school volunteer, in response to music cut-backs in the Los Angeles Public Schools.
The program has been used for 19 years in Los Angeles public and private schools and in after-school programs.
More than 4000 students have learned to read and play music using the Blue-Line Music Teaching Method

The Blue-Line Music Teaching Method uses a flexible, song-based, sequential curriculum. In only a few weeks, students
Learn to play and perform sophisticated songs on the recorder
Know how to read and write music
Understand basic musical concepts
Appreciate different styles of music
Have a sense of music history
